Problem: Eight workers finish a job in 10 days. How many days will 10 workers take for the same job (same pace)?

Solution: Total man-days = 8 × 10 = 80. Days for 10 workers = 80 / 10 = 8 days.

Answer: 8 days

Q2: CI vs SI hint

Problem: Find compound interest on ₹10,000 at 10% per annum for 2 years, compounded annually.

Solution: Amount = 10000 × (1.1)² = 10000 × 1.21 = ₹12,100. CI = 12100 − 10000 = ₹2100. (SI for same period would be ₹2000; the extra ₹100 is interest on first-year interest.)

Answer: ₹2100

Q3: Cube surface

Problem: A cube has side 6 cm. What is its total surface area?

Solution: TSA = 6a² = 6 × 36 = 216 cm².

Answer: 216 cm²

Q4: Discount successive

Problem: Two successive discounts of 10% and 20% equal a single discount of?

Solution: Net multiplier = 0.9 × 0.8 = 0.72 → 28% single discount.

Answer: 28%

Q5: Algebra ages

Problem: Father is 3 times as old as son. After 12 years he will be twice as old. Son’s present age?

Solution: 3x + 12 = 2(x + 12) → 3x + 12 = 2x + 24 → x = 12.

Problem: Simplify: (3/4) ÷ (9/8) × (2/3).

Solution: (3/4) × (8/9) × (2/3) = (3×8×2)/(4×9×3) = 48/108 = 4/9.

Q7: Chain rule copies

Problem: 8 printers print 800 pages in 4 hours. How many printers for 1200 pages in 3 hours?

Solution: Pages ∝ printers × time. 800/(8×4)=1200/(p×3) → 25 = 1200/(3p) → 75p=1200 → p=16.

Q8: Average speed

Problem: A person covers a distance at 60 km/h and returns at 40 km/h. What is the average speed for the whole trip?

Solution: For equal distances, average speed = 2ab/(a+b). = 2×60×40 / (60+40) = 4800/100 = 48 km/h.

Do not take the arithmetic mean (50); that would be wrong here.

Answer: 48 km/h

Q9: Percentage recover

Problem: If 30% of a number is 150, what is the number?

Solution: 0.3x = 150 → x = 150 / 0.3 = 500.

Answer: 500

Problem: An article is marked 40% above cost and sold after a 10% discount. Find the profit percent.
