Infosys Pre-Test for Joiners 2026: Syllabus and Preparation
The Infosys pre-test is the assessment some Systems Engineer (SE) joiners say they were asked to take after selection, before or around onboarding. It keeps coming up in 2026 joiner threads (for example on r/infosysmysore), mostly as “what is on it?” and “what if I fail?”. This page collects what joiners report, flags what is not known, and gives a short prep plan. Infosys does not publish a public pre-test syllabus, so your own mail or Launchpad instructions win over anything here.
What the pre-test is (and is not)
| Item | What joiners report |
|---|---|
| When | After the offer, before or at onboarding. It is not part of the hiring online test. |
| Who | Mostly SE campus and off-campus joiners waiting for a joining date |
| Topics | Aptitude (quant), logical reasoning, data interpretation, English |
| Questions / duration / pass mark | Not consistently reported. Numbers differ between posts, and Infosys does not publish them. |
| Where the instructions come from | Your Infosys mail and the Launchpad portal |
What joiners say it covers
- Aptitude: percentages, profit and loss, ratios, time and work, speed and distance, simple and compound interest.
- Logical reasoning: number and letter series, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, simple arrangements.
- Data interpretation: a table or chart followed by percentage-change, average and ratio questions.
- English: error spotting, sentence correction, fill in the blanks, vocabulary in context, short reading passages.
That overlaps heavily with the hiring online test, so the same material works. The topic lists and section timing are on the Infosys exam pattern page, and solved drills are in Infosys aptitude questions.
Why joiners take it seriously
Joiners treat the pre-test as part of onboarding, not an optional quiz. What happens after a low score is not clear: candidates are unsure, and reports differ. Our advice:
- Read your mail and Launchpad instructions in full. If the consequence is stated there, that is the answer for your batch.
- If it is not stated, ask your onboarding contact instead of relying on forum guesses.
- Prepare as if it counts. Two or three weeks of revision costs little next to a delayed joining.
Onboarding facts candidates report (2026)
- Launchpad mail: the offer letter and onboarding steps arrive through a Launchpad mail. Watch spam folders and keep your registered email active.
- Monday joining dates: 2026 offer letters came with Monday joining dates, starting mid-June for many SE joiners. DSE joiners reported July and August dates.
- BGV delays: onboarding gets postponed when background verification (BGV) is incomplete. Upload documents (mark sheets, degree or provisional certificate, ID proofs) as soon as the portal opens.
- Long waits: SE campus selections can wait several months for a date. Graduating-year students usually get a date only after final results.
More post-offer notes from 2026 candidates are in the Infosys previous year question papers page, under “After the offer”.
2-3 week preparation plan
| Week | Focus | Daily work |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Quant basics | 25-30 questions on percentages, profit and loss, time and work, ratios. Write down every formula you forgot. |
| 2 | Reasoning + DI | 15 series / coding-decoding questions, plus 2 DI sets (table or bar chart). Time each DI set at 8-10 minutes. |
| 3 (if you have it) | English + mixed timed sets | 20 grammar and error-spotting questions, 1 reading passage, then one mixed 30-minute set. Review every miss. |
If you only have one week, keep the same order and halve the volume. Accuracy matters more than speed here: the topics are basic, and careless mistakes are the usual problem.
Use these for practice:
- Infosys aptitude questions - quant, reasoning and verbal with solutions, plus a timed mock quiz
- Infosys exam pattern - sections and topics from the hiring test
- Infosys previous year question papers - full timed sets
Practice questions
Original questions written to match the reported topics. They are not taken from any real pre-test.
1. Time and work
A can finish a job in 12 days and B in 18 days. They work together for 4 days, then A leaves. How many more days does B need to finish the job?
(a) 6 (b) 8 (c) 10 (d) 12
Answer
(b) 8 days. Together they do 1/12 + 1/18 = 5/36 of the job per day. In 4 days that is 20/36 = 5/9. The remaining 4/9 at B’s rate of 1/18 per day takes (4/9) × 18 = 8 days.
2. Profit and loss
A shopkeeper marks a product 40% above cost price and then gives a 15% discount on the marked price. What is the profit percentage?
(a) 15% (b) 19% (c) 21% (d) 25%
Answer
(b) 19%. Take cost = 100. Marked price = 140. Selling price = 140 × 0.85 = 119. Profit = 19 on 100, so 19%.
3-4. Data interpretation
Laptops sold by a store in one year:
| Quarter | Q1 | Q2 | Q3 | Q4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Units sold | 120 | 150 | 135 | 195 |
3. By what percentage did sales rise from Q3 to Q4?
(a) 30% (b) 40% (c) 44.4% (d) 60%
4. Q4 sales are what percentage higher than the quarterly average for the year?
(a) 25% (b) 30% (c) 35% (d) 45%
Answers
3. (c) 44.4%. Increase = 195 − 135 = 60. 60 / 135 × 100 = 44.4%.
4. (b) 30%. Total = 120 + 150 + 135 + 195 = 600, so the average is 150. (195 − 150) / 150 × 100 = 30%.
5. Number series
3, 7, 15, 31, 63, ?
(a) 95 (b) 125 (c) 127 (d) 131
Answer
(c) 127. Each term is double the previous term plus 1: 63 × 2 + 1 = 127.
6. English (error spotting)
Find the part with the error: “Neither the manager (a) / nor the team members (b) / was informed (c) / about the change. (d)”
Answer
(c). With “neither … nor”, the verb agrees with the nearer subject. “Team members” is plural, so it should be “were informed”.

FAQs
Is the Infosys pre-test the same as the hiring online test?
No. The hiring test comes before the offer. Joiners describe the pre-test as a separate assessment after selection, with overlapping aptitude, reasoning, DI and English topics.
How many questions are in the Infosys pre-test?
This is not consistently reported. Different posts give different numbers, and Infosys does not publish them. Follow the instructions in your mail or Launchpad.
What happens if I fail the pre-test?
Candidates are unsure, and reports differ. Check your onboarding instructions, ask your onboarding contact if it is not stated, and prepare as if it counts.
My joining date keeps moving. Is that related to the pre-test?
Not necessarily. The most common reason joiners report for postponed onboarding is incomplete background verification (BGV). Finish your document uploads early and keep checking your Launchpad mail.
