This guide is for BHEL’s placement: a 90-minute written exam (technical subject-specific + general aptitude) and then technical and HR interviews. BHEL is a Maharatna PSU and India’s largest power generation equipment manufacturer. Eligibility is 65% / 6.5+ CGPA; Mechanical and Electrical are preferred. Freshers join as Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) with ₹6–7.2 LPA.

Core Engineering (40%)

Mechanical: Thermodynamics, heat transfer, manufacturing, machine design, power plant engineering. Electrical: Power systems, machines, power electronics, control systems, T&D. Electronics: Analog/digital circuits, power electronics, control. Discipline-specific weightage is high.

Power Systems & Heavy Engineering

Power generation (thermal/hydro), boilers, turbines, electrical systems, grid basics, industrial systems. Common across branches in technical round.

Aptitude (30%)

Quantitative (percentage, ratio, time & work, algebra), logical reasoning (series, coding-decoding, syllogism), verbal (comprehension, grammar).

WeekFocus
1–2Core engineering subjects (your discipline) + power systems basics. Start aptitude daily.
3Continue core subjects; practice BHEL previous year papers (technical + aptitude). Power plant and thermodynamics/electrical systems revision.
4Full-length mocks (90 min). Revise formulas and concepts. Prepare project summary and “Why BHEL?“
5–6Mock tests + interview prep: technical explanations, HR answers, willingness to work at plant locations.
  • Technical weight: Most of the written exam is technical; prioritize your branch subjects and power generation basics.
  • Power systems: Even for non-Electrical branches, basic power plant/thermal concepts help in both exam and interview.
  • Technical interview: Expect deep discipline questions and project discussion; link projects to power/industrial applications if possible.
  • HR: Show motivation for heavy engineering and BHEL’s role in India’s power sector; be clear on relocation to plant sites.

Freshers join as Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) with ₹6–7.2 LPA (total compensation). Executive Trainee (₹7.2–8.4 LPA) and Senior Engineer roles follow. As a PSU, BHEL offers job security, housing/allowances, and stable growth.
